Compilation de mes photos/Photos compilation

November 4th, 2009

Hello everyone

Already two months have gone by since Prague. Like everyone else I’m sure, the return to the real world, work life and crazy urban pace was challenging after such a beautiful trip. With so many projects on the go when I returned, compiling all the photos and creating the DVD was sadly low on the priority list… but finally I’m there and it will happen! I had to wait till I was on vacation again to view the 4500 photos taken during the Prague trip, and now I’ve started the selection and retouching of all those photos.

The compilation will be in the same format as the one from Australia: burned to a DVD due to it’s large storage capacity – though there will likely be two of them due to the large number of photos taken. I’ll also include photos taken around the Czech Republic for those who didn’t get a chance to visit.

So for anyone interested in receiving the DVD, the amount for it will be 30$ which includes shipping costs. I should be able to start sending them out in early December. The process to order is simple: send me an email, I’ll give you my postal address, you send me the money with the shipping address and I’ll ship out the DVD. It is possible also to pay using the PayPal by clicking on the “donate” button of the blog. Please do not forget to send me your shipping address.  The link for my personal email address can be found at the bottom of this page .

Julie’s report

August 28th, 2009

Hello Everyone,
The competition is developing well for my Senior Women’s crew.  We are dominating the races and have now 3 golds tucked away in our suit cases.  We started with the 2km race on Wednesday, as the fastest qualifier.  Starting in the last position in a field of 12 boats at 12 second intervals.  It is a chase race with 3 sharp corners to negotiate.  At some points of the race you can be 3 abreast in the corners, making huge waves that can come crashing in over the gunnel’s, flooding your boat.  This happened to our Seniors men’s crew with only 500m to go – their race ended in a swim, their gold medal chances sinking to the bottom quickly.

Thursday we raced the 1000m – having won the 2km by 9 seconds we had a good chance to take this race.  Only one boat advances directly to the final with the others going to repechage for a semi and then the final.  Our plan was a direct by to the final.  We blasted out from the start and establishing a solid lead to prevent boats on either side of us to ride our wash down the course.  We kept up a hard catch and solid press on the exit to pull away from the pack and end up with a 3 boat lead at the finish.  The final was a solid fight with the Germans on one side and the Americans on the other trying to get a good ride.  We had a brilliant start and power surge, followed by 3 punishing accelerations before the first 500m was done.  Our drummer then asked for a backs push which started to break the resolve of our competitors. She was un-relentless with 200m to go we started our finish sprint gaining on our now tired competitors.  We took the final with a 6 seat lead.

Today our crew enjoyed the 200m sprints.  Skill, precision and heavy reliance on fast twitch muscles are key.  Our dominance of the previous days helped us establish a growing belief in our crew as well as a feeling of uncertainty among our competition.  Our warm-up included reflex drills, clap drills for us to dial in our quick reaction to the starters gun.  We had modified our start sequence to create more power and speed out of transition.  We took the lead, and built on it sprinting well to the finish – crossing the line with a 6 bench lead (huge for a 200m)  Approx 53 seconds.

The qualifier was a good rehearsal for our final – we nailed the start and just got faster taking the final in 52 seconds.

Sunday our women’s crew will race in the 500m.
It has been a big day in the sun 84 degrees and very humid .

DE L’OR POUR LES SÉNIORS

August 28th, 2009

Anecdotes Thursday / jeudi

August 27th, 2009

Pea Soup Fog / Brouillard du matin Photo kind of says it all! Thursday started with some increadibly thick fog that only lifted around noon. It delayed the races by about 20 minutes. It was chilly and damp but quickly became hot and sunny by afternoon.

Continued domination for the Seniors and Grand Dragons this morning. The Senior open team had an additional challenge, having to go through semi finals to access the finals where they won with a boat length. We missed the Premier races due to the bus schedule.

The beer is still good, and cheap!

Anecdotes from day 1 – Anecdotes du premier jour

August 26th, 2009

All in all it was a good day of racing for the Canadian team. Violent – and I mean VIOLENT – thunderstorm hit right before the Senior Mixed 2k race, delaying racing by an hour – to say nothing about the ad-hoc swimming pools it created outside the athletes tents. On the upside though, beer sold onsite is cheap, very cheap. 1.66$ (25 Tcheque Crowns) for 1/2 a liter, on tap, very cold. Makes for a nice way to end the racing day – and some interesting comments on the bus ride home. If you’re interested in all the race results, you’ll find them at http://idbfworldchamps.com/daily-results/

Final comment – After watching all the 2k races it’s clear how lucky we are in Canada to have the quality of steerspeople we have.
